Meeting the cable requirements of both the U.S. and Canadian markets, Qingdao Cable Co., Ltd. holds full compliance certifications for MC and AC90 cables.

2. Structural Differences

AC90 Cable (Canada-Specific Design)

AC90 has a fixed and well-defined structure under CSA standards:

• Interlocked aluminum armor

• Copper conductors (solid or stranded)

• XLPE insulation (RW90 rated)

• Mandatory aluminum bonding strip for grounding

• Temperature rating: 90°C

The bonding strip is critical—it ensures a reliable grounding path through the armor and is required by Canadian code.

MC Cable (More Flexible Design)

MC cable is a general category with multiple design options:

• Armor types:

• Interlocked aluminum

• Interlocked steel

• Corrugated aluminum (in some designs)

• Grounding options:

• Separate green grounding conductor

• Armor used as grounding path

• Insulation types:

• THHN/THWN

• XHHW

• XLPE

Because of this flexibility, not all MC cables are suitable for Canada.
